Harold Dean Munn, 82, of Kirksville, Missouri, passed away Saturday (June 29, 2013) at Kirksville Manor Care Center in Kirksville.
The son of Everett and Mary Alberta (Shoemaker) Munn, he was born September 27, 1930 in Kirksville, Missouri. On May 28, 1962 in Kirksville, Missouri, Dean was united in marriage to Betty Ruth King.
Dean is survived by his wife Betty of fifty-one years; three sons and daughters-in-law, Mike and Vicki Munn, Terry and Doreen Gardner, and Mark and Jana Munn all of Kirksville, MO; two daughters and one son-in-law, Judy Cook and friend, Tracy Ogle of South Gifford, MO and Dana and Mike Higgins of LaPlata, MO; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Ronnie and Janice Munn of Kirksville, MO and David Munn of Youngstown, MO; one sister, Lois Baugher of Kirksville, MO; nine grandchildren, Jason Munn, Josh Munn, Nick Cook, Carmen (Cook) Stewart, Briana (Cook) Downing, Blake Munn, Jennifer Gardner, Bradley Gardner and Lauren Tullis, as well as several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Murrell and Danny Munn and one sister, Jeanette Hutcheson.
Dean was a lifelong resident of Adair County and received his education in the Sloan’s Point rural school. He delivered telegrams on his bicycle before going to work at International Shoe Factory where he was employed forty-seven years until retiring.
Dean loved the outdoors and enjoyed fox and coyote hunting, fishing, and country music. He will be remembered for being a fox hunter legend and for his love of breeding registered fox hounds.
He was a member of the Missouri Fox Hunters Association, N.R.A. and of the Sporting Dog Association.
Public visitation will be held Tuesday (July2, 2013) with family receiving friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the chapel of Travis-Noe Funeral Home in Kirksville.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday (July 3, 2013) at Travis-Noe Funeral Home in Kirksville, with Elder Chris Snyder officiating. Interment will follow the service at Prough Cemetery, west of Kirksville, Missouri.
Pallbearers will be Jason Munn, Joshua Munn, Nick Cook, Blake Munn, Brad Gardner and Curt Downing. Honorary pallbearers will be Paul Frazier, Jim Hamilton, Raymond Buchanan, Lee Burgdorf, Randy Munn, Kevin Selby and John Ben Grossnickle.
