Will Griffith Jacobs, 13, son of Allen and Trena Jacobs passed away at his home on Saturday, September 22, 2012.
Will is survived by his parents, five brothers and two sisters: Jake Mittag and wife Katie of Fayetteville, AR, McKay Greer and husband Jeff of Henderson, NV, Sam Jacobs and wife Sara, nephew Jason of Kirksville, MO, Jeb Jacobs and wife Hannah of Saint Anthony, ID, Bennett Jacobs and Jared Jacobs of Rexburg, ID and Mazie Jacobs of the home. He was also survived by his grandmothers, Dianna Palmer and Barbara Jacobs of Green City, MO, as well as many doting aunts, uncles and cousins who he loved dearly, and his favorite cat Russell Kitty.
Will was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Max Palmer and Dwight Jacobs of Green City.
Will was born April 5, 1999 in Kirksville, MO, and grew up on a farm north of Winigan, Missouri. Will loved life. He was fearless. He loved tractors and motorcycles and by the age of 4 he mastered riding his Yamaha 50 and at age 7 with his feet a foot off the ground he was riding his Honda 100 dirt bike. He loved riding and until he became sick rode everyday. Will was a farm boy and loved raising cattle, hogs, lambs and chickens. He was a member of the Green City Workers 4-H. Will enjoyed music, playing piano and drums. He purchased his drum set with money he earned through his 4-H projects. He recently donated his drum set to the Green City School Band program. He attended school at Green City R-1 and had a special place in his heart for his 8th grade classmates who were so supportive and generous to him.
Will was a First Class Scout of the Boy Scouts of America Organization, Troop 501. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and was proud to be a deacon serving others. August 28, 2011, Will was diagnosed with brain cancer. Iron Will as he became known for, fought a brave battle for 13 months. His positive attitude, strength, humor and courage won the hearts of the community.
Public visitation will be held Thursday (September 27, 2012) from 3:00 to 9:00 p.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints on Normal Street in Kirksville.
Funeral service will be held 1:00 p.m. Friday (September 28, 2012) at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Kirksville, under the direction of Travis-Noe Funeral Home of Kirksville.
Interment will follow the service at Winigan Cemetery in Winigan, MO.
Pallbearers will be his brothers, Jake, Sam, Jeb, Ben, Jared, Jeff and his cousin, Jett Featherston.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Will Jacobs Memorial Fund or to the Farmers Bank of Green City. Memorials may be left at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints during visitation and the service or mailed to Travis-Noe Funeral Home, P.O. Box 306, Kirksville, MO 63501.
