Lois Kay Athon

Lois Kay (Poston) Athon, 67, of Kirksville, Missouri, passed away Wednesday (August 15, 2012) at Twin Pines Adult Care Center.
Born April 27, 1945 in Kirksville, Missouri, she was the daughter of William Lee and Lenora Katherine (Evans) Poston.
On September 21, 1963 in Kirksville, Missouri, Lois was united in marriage to Asa Vance Athon.
Lois is survived one daughter, Pamela Joyce and husband Cecil Warren; one son, Timothy Charles and Wife Angela Athon; six grandchildren, William Zachary, Nicholas, Tyler Athon, Sarah and Hannah Warren; two sisters, Barbara Mears, Linda Zeigler and husband Bill all of Kirksville, MO and several nieces and nephews also survive Lois.
She was preceded in death by her parents; grandparents; her husband, Asa in 2010; one sister, Janet Robinson and brother-in-law, Richard Mears.
Lois received her education, graduating from Kirksville High School with the Class of 1963. She was employed with International, Florsheim and Wolverine Shoe companies for a total of thirty-nine years. Lois then worked for Wal-Mart for seven years until her retirement in 2006.
Lois was very loving and devoted to her family, and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.
She was a member of the Southside Baptist Church of Kirksville.
Lois had a favorite saying she wished to pass on to all. “Remember me with smiles and laughter, that’s how I will remember you all, if you can only remember me with tears, then don’t remember me at all.”
Public visitation is in progress and family will receive friends this evening, Friday (August 17, 2012) from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the chapel of Travis-Noe Funeral Home in Kirksville.
Funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday (August 18, 2012) at Travis-Noe Funeral Home in Kirksville, with Pastor Boyd Halford officiating. Music selections, “What a day that will Be” and “Precious Memories” will be provided by Twila Jones who will be accompanied by Dianthe Cable, organist. Interment will follow the service at Park View Memorial Gardens in Kirksville.
Casket bearers will be Doug Athon, Darrell Athon, Robert Athon, Leroy Snow, Zachary Athon and Herb Cook.
