Dorothy Mae Rogers, 86, of Kirksville, Missouri, passed away Tuesday (August 23, 2011) at Kirksville Manor Care Center.

The daughter of Aurther Guy and Orpha Elizabeth (Figge) Sweikert, she was born January 16, 1925 in Cardy, Missouri. On June 18, 1949, Dorothy was united in marriage to Hilles Deon Rogers who preceded her in death on September 22, 1990.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, John and Roy Sweikert and four sisters, Ethel Lene, Elma Crawford, Muriel Houser and Opal Fern Sweikert.

Dorothy is survived by one son, Norman Deon Rogers of Kirksville, MO; one daughter, Pamela Denise Dethloff of Olathe, KS; one sister, Hazel Lene of Elmer, MO; two grandchildren, Leah Danielle Dethloff and Joshua Scott Dethloff and their father, Kevin; her granddaughters by choice, Angel Cook, Melissa Qi and children and Amanda Quaintance, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Dorothy received her education in the Murry rural school and resided most of her life in the Kirksville area. She was a caregiver of several children in her home and also worked as a housekeeper a number of years for the Swain’s and others. Dorothy enjoyed music, flowers and gardening.

She was a member of the Hamilton Street Baptist Church of Kirksville.

Public visitation is in progress and the family will receive friends this evening, Thursday (August 25, 2011) in the chapel of Travis-Noe Funeral Home in Kirksville.

Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Friday (August 26, 2011) at Travis-Noe Funeral Home, with Pastor Richard Lawrence officiating. Music selections “Amazing Grace”, “His Eye Is On The Sparrow” and “Supper Time” will be provided by Annette Greer who will be accompanied by Dianthe Cable, organist. Interment will follow the service at the LaPlata Cemetery in LaPlata, Missouri.

Pallbearers will be John Paul Grissom, Teresa Rogers, Jeff Rogers, Mark Rogers, Doug Jacobs, Damon Jacobs and Leslie McCarty.

Expressions of sympathy in memory of Dorothy may be made to Hamilton Street Baptist Church Building Fund. Memorials may be left at or mailed to Travis-Noe Funeral Home, P.O. Box 306, Kirksville, MO 63501.
