James Edwin Daniels, 79, of Novinger went to meet his Lord and Savior July 11, 2011. He passed away at his home in Pure Air.
He was the son of William Floyd and Laura Thompson Daniels, born August 24, 1931 in Adair County. He lived all his life in Adair County except for 2 years between 1952 and 1954 when he served in the US Marine Corps and was stationed in California and Japan. On June 10, 1951 he married Thelma Irene Baugher of Kirksville.
He is survived by his wife of sixty years, Thelma and his four daughters: Elaine and husband Jim Schweizer of Centerville, IA, Sheila and husband Terry Garlock of Kirksville, MO, Karen and her husband John Tabb of Lebanon, MO, and Christine and her husband Jason Wallace of Garden City, GA.
He is also survived by thirteen grandchildren: Amy and husband Jon Guthrie, Jamie and husband Robbie Wallace, Aaron, Andrew, and Alec Schweizer, Emily, Natalie, and Ashley Garlock, Kathryn, Joshua, and Rebekah Tabb, and Nick and Laura Wallace.
Lastly, he is survived by one sister, Loretta (Leslie) Ellsworth of Novinger, MO and two brothers, Ivan (Marilyn) Daniels of Novinger, MO, and Jerry (Nancy) Daniels of Galesburg, IL.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister and brother-in-law, Doris and Melvin Braker and his foster granddaughter, Patty Whittaker.
Jim drove a milk truck, farmed in Pure Air and was last employed by Kewanee Manufacturing.
Jim was a member and deacon of the Pure Air Baptist Church. He was fondly remembered as taking care of the children at church. Jim and Thelma also spent a number of years as foster parents in Adair County, fostering nearly 70 children.
Jim was a family man who took great pride in his wife, daughters, sons-in law and grandchildren. He supported his grandchildren in their academic, athletic, and musical endeavors. He was always a good neighbor, enjoying his horses and trail rides with family and late friend J. D. Muir.
Visitation will be held Thursday (July 14, 2011) from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the chapel of Travis-Noe Funeral Home in Kirksville.
Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Friday, July 15 at the Travis-Noe Funeral Home with Pastor Dennis Huskisson presiding. Interment will follow the service at the Pratt Cemetery, southwest of Novinger.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons and grandsons-in-law.
