James Jay Holzmeier, 60, of Kirksville, Missouri, passed away on May 31, 2025 at Capital Region Medical Center in Jefferson City, Missouri.

The son of Alfred and Norma (Wilson) Holzmeier, he was born in Kirksville on January 15th, 1965. In 1999, he was united in marriage to Sara Parcell, and to this union two children were born.

James is survived by his two children; daughter Riley Holzmeier of Kansas City, MO, son Matt Holzmeier, of Kirksville and one sister, Jana Holzmeier of Lincoln, Nebraska.

He was proceeded in death by his parents, Al and Norma Holzmeier.

James graduated Kirksville High School with the class of 1983. He later earned his associates degree from North East Missouri State University in 1988.

James started working for the City of Kirksville Police Department in 1989 and retired from Kirksville Police Department as a Sergeant in August of 2013 after 24 years of service.

He was actively involved in the Wabash Railroad Historical Society for many years. James enjoyed spending time with his kids, his cat and watching the St. Louis Cardinals.

James has been cremated. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Donations can be made in James’ memory to the Monticello Railway Museum in Monticello, Illinois. Memorials may be left at or mailed to Travis-Noe Funeral Home, P.O. Box 306, Kirksville, Missouri 63501.
