Mildred Louise (Thompson) Mack Fortney, 96, of Kirksville, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, February 26, 2025 at Kirksville Manor Care Center.
Born July 9, 1928, Mildred was the daughter of the late Alonzo and Mamie Ola (Beverlin) Thompson. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Charles and Melvin Thompson. On April 25, 1948 in LaPlata, Missouri, Mildred was united in marriage to Lee Mack who preceded her in death on September 4, 1999. On March 7, 2003 Mildred married Oren Fortney who preceded her in death on April 23, 2013.
Mildred is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Terry and Lillie Mack of Kirksville, MO; two daughters and sons-in-law, Carolyn and Roy Turner of Kirksville, MO, and Cathy and the late Dennis Turner of Wichita, KS; eight grandchildren, Christina Turner, Stephanie (Andy) Dager, Michael Turner, Lindsey (Chase) Stamp, Brandon (Sarah) Mack, Brian (Bridget) Mack, Josh (Amy) Turner, and Lauren (David) Carrillo; foster granddaughter, Mary Norton; twenty great-grandchildren; two step-children, Melvin (Janie) Fortney, and Linda Gifford; five step-grandchildren, Ross Fortney, Stephanie (Kevin) Kingdom, Carrie (Nick) Mahon, Rachel Gifford, and Erin Gifford; as well as nine step great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Mildred was a graduate from Kirksville High School and attended Missouri State Teacher's College. She was employed at First National Bank, Huston Leeper Insurance and KIRX radio.
She was a farm wife, wonderful cook, enjoyed farm animals, crocheting, music (gave piano lessons), church activities. Her family was always Mildred's priority. Mildred was a member of Sugar Creek Community Church.
Public visitation will be held from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Monday, March 3, 2025 with funeral service following at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Travis-Noe Funeral Home. Pastor's Virgil Jones and Cathy Turner will officiate the service. Music will be provided by Josh Turner and Lauren Carrillo. Interment will follow the service at Maple Hills Cemetery in Kirksville.
Pallbearers will be Michael Turner, Chase Stamp, Brandon Mack, Brian Mack, Josh Turner, David Carrillo, Ross Fortney, and Kevin Kingdom.
Memorial donations in memory of Mildred may be made to Hospice of Northeast Missouri and may be left at or mailed to Travis-Noe Funeral Home, P.O. Box 306, Kirksville, MO 63501.
