Dorthy Ruth (Brewer) Smith, 96, of Kirksville, Missouri, passed away Friday, January 26, 2024 at the LaPlata Nursing Home in LaPlata, Missouri.

Born July 23, 1927 in Willmathsville, Missouri, Dorthy was the daughter of Orlando and Beulah Blanch (Rummerfield) Brewer. On March 30, 1953 in Kirksville, Missouri, Dorthy was united in marriage to David H. Smith who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by three sisters, Florence Lela Brewer, Hilda Beeman, and Edith Christman; and three brothers, Wesley Brewer, Hershel Brewer, and Orin Stanley Brewer.

Dorthy is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Roger and Twila Smith of Kirksville, MO; one daughter and son-in-law, Janet and Jeffrey Cannaday of Joshua, TX; and two grandchildren, Reagan and Taylor Smith, as well as a number of nieces and nephews.

Dorthy received her education in the New Hope rural school. She was a farmer's wife and enjoyed helping her husband on the farm. She also enjoyed sewing, gardening, and interacting with her neighbors. Dorthy was active in Right to Life and was a faithful member of Church of God Holiness of Kirksville.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 31, 2024 at Church of God Holiness in Kirksville with Pastor Ralph Wheeler officiating. Family will receive friends at the church for one hour before service time. Entombment will follow the service at Maple Hills Cemetery in Kirksville.
