Judy (Zeigler) Steele, 76, formerly of Kirksville, MO, died on Sept. 9, 2023 in Johnston, IA. Judy was born on October 7, 1946, outside of Kirksville, to Earl and Inis (Johnson) Zeigler.

Judy graduated from Kirksville High School in 1964 and the University of Iowa with a bachelor’s degree in social work. In 1965, Judy married Bobby Leroy Steele, also of Kirksville. Bob and Judy raised three children and were married 50 years prior to Bob’s death in 2018. Their children are Keri Steele, Koni Steele (John Deeth), and Lori Steele Cook (Mickey). Judy’s precious grandchildren are Hayden Cox, Ethan Cox, and Owen Steele Cook. Judy is also survived by her sister, Wanda (Bobby) Hartsock, sister-in-law, Sandy Steele, and many treasured family members including nieces, nephews and family friends. Judy’s parents preceded Judy in death as did her sister, Gloria (Garry) Stanley, and her brother, Ed (Theresa) Zeigler.

Judy was a thoughtful woman and kind person who doted on her family and friends. She enjoyed spending time with family, researching genealogy, traveling, and reading. Judy was dedicated to fairness and helping people, serving as a staunch advocate for children and families throughout her 26.75 years working in Child Protection for the Iowa Department of Human Services.

Services for Judy will be on Saturday, Sept. 30th at 11:30 AM at the Travis-Noe Funeral Home in Kirksville, MO. Following the service, burial will be at Pratt Cemetery in rural Novinger, MO.
