Doris Evon (Young) Thompson, 91, of Kirksville, Missouri, passed away Thursday, November 2, 2023 at Samaritan Hospital in Macon, Missouri.

Born October 5, 1932 in Pattonsburg, Missouri, Doris was the daughter of James F. and Mary Helen (Maxwell) Young. On March 5, 1949 in Kirksville, Missouri, Doris was united in marriage to Laverne L. Thompson who preceded her in death in 2000. She was also preceded in death by her parents; one granddaughter, Inga Pickett; sister-in-law, Elfreide Young; as well as her beloved Collie dog, "Sparky".

Doris is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Mindy Thompson of Kirksville, MO; two daughters and a son-in-law, Helen Elaine Tilman, and Tina and Jon Bowen all of Kirksville, MO; one brother and sister-in-law, David and Sharon Young of Kirksville, MO; ten grandchildren, Matt (Cynthia) Bowen of Trilla, IL, Robby (Laura) Bowen of Hallsville, MO, Scott (Christine) Bowen of Kirksville, MO, Adam (Channa) Bowen of Kirksville, MO, Ryan Bowen of Kirksville, MO, and Ben (Cassie) Bowen of Kirksville, MO, Chad Thompson of Park City, KS, Tony (Kathy) Thompson of Kirksville, MO, Heather Werkman of Kirksville, MO, and Grant (Kristen) Thompson of Moorsville, N.C.; thirty great-grandchildren, Jack, Christian, Bella, and Sophia Bowen, Jon and Joey Bowen, Adilay, Olivia, and Lily Bowen, Brooklyn and Bradon Bowen, Eva, Evan, and Ella Bowen, Carlee and Bentlee Bowen, Elis' Evon Thompson, Noah Thompson, Katy Thompson, Nina Pickett, Lillie Pickett, Asa Pickett, Nadia Pickett, Heidi Pickett, Oakley Thompson, Madison Evon Adkins, Alec Adkins, Maeve Adkins, Kurt Thompson, and Hannah Thompson as well as one on the way. She was also survived by four half siblings and several nieces and nephews.

Doris worked along side of Laverne on the farm helping work cattle, fixing fence, and lived the life of a farm wife which she loved. She and Laverne enjoyed traveling, including to Europe, Canada, and Hawaii.

Doris was a avid sports fan of her grandchildren and always kept her fingers crossed when their games were close. She was a 4-H Leader and a member of her neighborhood "Club". The club met monthly for meetings, had card parties, played "Pitch" in the winter, and had family picnics in the summer. Doris was also a member of the First United Methodist Church of Kirksville.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Thursday, November 9, 2023 at Travis-Noe Funeral Home in Kirksville, with Pastor Scott Baird officiating. Interment will follow the service at Park View Memorial Gardens in Kirksville.

Family will receive friends on Thursday, November 9, 2023 from noon to 2:00 p.m. service time in the chapel of Travis-Noe Funeral Home.
