Sammie Eugene Davis, 82, of Kirksville, Missouri, passed away unexpectedly, Tuesday, October 24, 2023 at the University Missouri Hospital in Columbia, Missouri.

The son of the late Ralph and Bessie (Lyle) Davis, Sammie was born April 6, 1941 in Kirksville, Missouri. He was also preceded in death by two grandsons, Jackson Primm and Dakota Davis; two brothers-in-law, Mike and J.E. Hutcheson; his niece, Angela Hutcheson, and his beloved dog Misty. On January 2, 1965 in Kirksville, Missouri, Sammie was united in marriage to Karen Sue Hutcheson.

Sam is survived by his wife Karen of fifty-eight years; two sons, Todd (Nicole Zajac) Davis and Rusty (Becky) Davis all of Kirksville, MO; five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; and his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Jolene Christopher of Athens, AL and Leon (Willa) Hutcheson, Debbie Hurley (Bill Shoush), and Becky Hutcheson all of Kirksville, MO.

Sam received his education in the Kirksville public schools. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy stationed in New Port, Rhode Island from 1962 to 1965. He served as Commanding Officer on the USS Kankakee A039. After his honorable discharge, Sam returned home and went to work for McGraw Edison until the factory closed. He then worked in construction for Barnes Construction Company before working from 1986 to 2012 for the Missouri Department of Natural Resources for Thousand Hills State Park until his retirement.

Sam loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing, arrowhead hunting, bird and squirrel watching, and loved all animals, especially his dog, Moose. He made many dog leashes and supported the Adair County Humane Society for a number of years. Sam also through the years enjoyed playing lead guitar at church gatherings and benefits with the family band ( Sweet Water Family Gospel).

Sam was a member of the Sugar Creek Community Church of Kirksville.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, October 28, 2023 at Travis-Noe Funeral Home in Kirksville, with Pastor Virgil Jones officiating. Interment with military honors will follow the service at Highland Park Cemetery in Kirksville.

Family will receive friends on Saturday, October 28, 2023 from 1:00 p.m. to service time in the chapel of Travis-Noe Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will Todd Davis, Sam Davis, Brendan Davis, Corbin Alderton, Kendall Zajac, and Steven Kuk. Honorary pallbearers will be Rusty Davis, Brian Hutcheson, Leon Hutcheson, Bill Shoush, and Joe White.

Memorial donations in memory of Sam may be made to the Adair County Humane Society and may be left at or mailed to Travis-Noe Funeral Home, P.O. Box 306, Kirksville, MO 63501.
