Harold Lee McFarland Sr., 73, of La Plata, Missouri, passed away Thursday, August 19, 2021 at the University Missouri Medical Center in Columbia, with his four children by his side.

Born September 9, 1947 in Novinger, Missouri, Harold was the oldest son of Virgil Eugene and Mabel Louise (Davis) McFarland. On January 16, 1967 in Stockport, Iowa, Harold was united in marriage to Judith Sharon Hanna who preceded him in death on November 21, 2015. He was also preceded in death by one brother, Hershel McFarland.

Harold is survived by two sons, Harold McFarland Jr. and Johnny McFarland both of Kirksville, MO; two daughters, Deanna Shoop and Sue Ann McFarland both of Kirksville, MO; three brothers, Joe, Charlie, and Wayne McFarland; five sisters, Helen Neville, Wanda Downing, Linda Young, Pearl Rodriguez, and Loretta McFarland, as well as several grand-children, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Harold was an excellent mechanic and there wasn't anything he couldn't fix. He enjoyed spending time with his friends and family, grilling, fishing, hunting, tinkering around in his shed, as well as staying busy taking care of his property. He often went for long drives and enjoyed a beer while visiting with his friends, sharing fond memories of his childhood with everyone. Harold was a great father to his children and great friend to all who knew him. He will be forever missed and in the hearts of everyone who knew him. He was truly the life of the party.

It was Harold's wish to be cremated and a Celebration of Life to honor him will be held 2 to 8 p.m. Saturday, September 11, 2021 at Thousand Hills State Park in Kirksville.
