Thomas Joe Story, 76, of Brashear, Missouri, passed away Monday, March 8, 2021 at his home under Hospice care.

He was born June 23, 1944 the son of the late Stanley Morris and Emma Pauline (Madders) Story. On January 21, 1972 he was united in marriage to Betty Jane Ertel who survives. Also surviving are one daughter Elizabeth (Charles) Lay, one granddaughter, Heidi Lay, and one grandson, Clien Lay of Unionville, MO; four sisters-in-law, Anita Story of Greentop, MO, Marlene (Glen) Mullins of Lancaster, MO, Shirley LaCore of Hollister, MO, and Nancy (Pat) Meade of Milo, IA; two brothers-in-law, Bill Ertel of Greentop, MO and Dale Ertel of AR; also many nieces, and nephews including Joe Story and Mark Story who helped Tom so much with his farm work.

Tom was preceded in death by two brothers, John Stanley Story and Keith Abraham Story.

Tom graduated with the Class of 1962 Brashear High School. He was a life long farmer raising hogs and cattle. He served on the Adair CO School Board (Brashear) for nine years - six of them as president. He was also an MFA Delegate. For several years Tom was a substitute mail carrier for Brashear and later Hurdland. He also worked for MODOT in the winter removing snow. Tom spent many years playing SLO-PITCH softball with the Brashear team.

Tom and Jane enjoyed traveling to many areas in the U.S. including Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn, MI, Mackinac Island MI, Niagara Falls, Washington, D.C., Boston, MA, Disney World in FL, Gulf Shores, AL, Grand Canyon, Las Vegas, NV, and twice to Alberta, Canada to visit Janes relatives. His favorite place was the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, NY which they visited twice. He enjoyed watching his grand daughter Heidi play ball.

Tom was always willing to help neighbors and friends, he will be sadly missed.

Public visitation will be held Thursday, March 11, 2021 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the chapel of Travis-Noe Funeral Home in Kirksville.

Graveside services will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday, March 12, 2021 at Willmathsville Cemetery in Willmathsville, with Pastor Ralph Wheeler officiating.

Pallbearers will be Mike Allen, Garry Taylor, Gary Clark, Zachary Erwin, Mike Corrick, and Kenny Crandall. Honorary pallbearers will be Roger Nimmo, Chris Collop, Jerry Clay, and Monte Fisher.

Expressions of sympathy in memory of Tom may be made to Willmathsville Cemetery, Willmathsville Church or to Adair County R-II School Brashear and may be left at or mailed to Travis-Noe Funeral Home, P.O. Box 306, Kirksville, MO 63501.
