Betty Jean (Pittman) Young, 84, of Kirksville, Missouri, passed away Friday, September 27, 2019 at Northeast Regional Medical Center in Kirksville.

Born August 28, 1935 in Marshall, Missouri, Betty was the daughter of the late Harold Eugene and Gertrude Viola (Ballard) Pittman. On May 10, 1957 in Marshall, Missouri, Betty was united in marriage to Arthur Vernon Young who preceded her in death on June 1, 1994. She was also preceded in death by two grandchildren, Michelle Vaughn and Rick W. Huddleston and two great grandchildren, Tessa Marie Hahs, Dalton Gladbach.

Betty is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Jay and Diana Young of Kirksville, MO, and Steven and Jana Young of Unionville, MO; one daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Rick Huddleston of Kirksville, MO; one sister-in-law, Henrietta Darnel of Independence, MO; eight grandchildren, Andrea (Matt) Turner, Nicholas (Emily) Roberts, Megan (Ben) Hahs, Kane Young, Cole Young, Josie (Joel) Hinkle, Tera (Jamie) Bergfield, Ashley Huddleston; eighteen great-grandchildren, Molly, Chaney, and Daniel Hahs, Baylea and Tyler Turner, Dominic, Meagan, Hunter, Harlee, and Maverick Bergfield, Korbyn, Braylinn, Jettsyn Harris, Hailey and Logan Roberts, Tabitha (Ron) Hartman, Willie (Rebekah) Vaughn and Tiffany Vaughn; five great-great grandchildren, Rylea Clay, Birklee Speiser, Jaxxon Turner, Lucy Vaughn and Lydia Hartman as well as a number of nieces and nephews.

Betty was a graduate from Marshall High School with the Class of 1953 and attended Kansas City University. She resided on the same farm in Adair County since 1957. She was employed for Grim-Smith Hospital from 1968 to 1997 and then for Northeast Regional Medical Center from 1997 to 2001 as a purchasing agent until retiring on March 14, 2001. Betty was an original Board Member of the Adair County Ambulance Service serving as Board Member and Secretary.

Betty enjoyed bird watching, flowers and of course her cats, but most of all she loved time spent with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.

Betty was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Kirksville where she enjoyed attending weekly Bible study with Peggy Chrow and several other friends each Thursday.

Family will receive friends on Monday, September 30, 2019 from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. with a service following in the chapel of Travis-Noe Funeral Home in Kirksville, with Pastor Virgil Jones officiating. Interment will follow the service at Park View Memorial Gardens in Kirksville.

Pallbearers will be Kane Young, Cole Young, Ben Hahs, Joel Hinkle, Nicholas Roberts and Matt Turner.
