Maizie Imogene (Miller) Sevits, 94, of rural Kirksville, Missouri, passed away Thursday (July 16, 2015) at Schuyler County Nursing Home in Queen City, Missouri.

The daughter of Marion C. and Sylvia May (Davis) Miller she was born June 3, 1921 in Connelsville, Missouri. On June 3, 1945 in Kirksville, Missouri, Maizie was united in marriage to Wendell Sevits.

Maizie is survived by her husband Wendell of seventy years; two sons and daughters-in-law, Terry and Wanda Sevits of Greentop, MO and Kendell and Kathy Sevits of Murfreesboro, TN; one sister and brother-in-law, Carmelita and Bill Lewellen of Ohio; four grandchildren, Chris, Jeremy, Jamie and Jessica; six great-grandchildren, Elliott, Milo, Adalyn, Lydia and Alexandra Sevits and Glenn Bartholow; as well as a number of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Ida Hamilton, Lovee Lay and Lillian Miller; one brother, John D. Miller and a half-sister, Vivian Miller.

Maizie received her education in rural Adair County and went on to teach school at Bald Knob from 1941 to 1942 and four years at Hazel Creek rural school.

Maizie taught Sunday School fifty years in Hazel Creek Free Will Baptist Church in rural Kirksville, where she started the first Children's Church Ministry. She was also head of the "Good News" Club out of her home for children. Maizie worked tirelessly with Child Evangelism leading many to the Lord and was active in Hazel Creek Free Will Baptist Women's Group.

Public visitation will be held Saturday (July 18, 2015) from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the chapel of Travis-Noe Funeral Home in Kirksville.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday (July 19, 2015) at Travis-Noe Funeral Home, with Pastor John Howell and Pastor David VanLaningham officiating. Music will be provided by Melodie Sevits who will be accompanied by Brian Sevits, organist. Jamie Sevits will play "Amazing Grace" on the trumpet. Interment will follow the service at Hazel Creek Cemetery, northwest of Kirksville.

Pallbearers will be Roger Hamilton, J.D. Miller, Marion Miller, Chris Sevits, Jamie Sevits and Jeremy Sevits.

Expressions of sympathy in memory of Maizie Sevits may be made to Hazel Creek Cemetery. Memorials may be left at or mailed to Travis-Noe Funeral Home, P.O. Box 306, Kirksville, MO 63501.
