Alberta “Pauline” (McCartney) Barnes, 91, of Kirksville, Missouri, passed away Thursday (January 17, 2013) at Kirksville Manor Care Center in Kirksville.

The daughter of Wooster Oren and Minni Edith (Leedom) McCartney, she was born October 20, 1921 in Jimtown, Missouri. She was united in marriage to Kenneth Barnes and to this union, one daughter was born.

Pauline is survived by one daughter, Carolyn Ray of Kirksville, MO; four grandchildren, Curtis Barnes and friend, Beverly Henry-Young, Tracy Ray and wife Brenda, Sheila Galloway and husband Brent and Bradley Ray and wife Sonya; seven great-grandchild, Jennifer Martin, Austin Ray, Ashton Ray, Skye Galloway, Gunnar Galloway, Kelby Ray, and Kenadie Ray; and four great great-grandchildren, Alexis Applegate, Tyson Applegate, Lathan Martin and Kaylee Miller.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, David McCartney; her son-in-law, Glen Dale Ray, and by her companion of twenty-five years, Shorty Bryns.

Pauline received her education in the Jimtown rural school. As a young girl, Pauline helped raise hogs on the family farm near Greentop. She was employed at McGraw Edison for several years until going to work at Florsheim Shoe Factory where she was employed until retiring.

Pauline enjoyed crocheting, ball games, car races and animals. She had a great love for her family and loved time spent with her grandchildren. Pauline was known for never meeting a stranger.

Funeral service will be held 1:00 p.m. Tuesday (January 22, 2013) at Travis-Noe Funeral Home in Kirksville, with Pastor Larry Gibson officiating. Interment will follow the service at Greentop Cemetery in Greentop, Missouri.

Family will receive friends on Tuesday (January 22, 2013) from 11:00 a.m. to service time in the chapel of Travis-Noe Funeral Home in Kirksville.

Pallbearers will be Ralph Miller, Kevin King, Tracy Ray, Brad Ray, Curtis Barnes and Brian White.

Expressions of sympathy in memory of Pauline Barnes may be made to Hospice of Northeast Missouri. Memorials may be left at or mailed to Travis-Noe Funeral Home, P.O. Box 306, Kirksville, MO 63501.
