Virgil J. Stanley, 77, of Kirksville, Missouri, passed away Sunday (April 15, 2012) at his home under Hospice care.

The son of Harry Cecil and Virginia Mae (Netterfield) Stanley, he was born June 7, 1934 in Greentop, Missouri. In 1968 in Colorado Springs, Colorado, he was united in marriage to Mary Eggert.

Virgil leaves to mourn, his wife, Mary of forty-three years; four brothers and sisters-in-law, Rex and Beth Stanley, Garry and Norma Stanley and David and Upin Stanley all of Kirksville, MO, and Dean and Sonja Stanley of Centerview, MO; four sisters and three brothers-in-law, Geneva and Raymond Black of Tempe, AZ, Mary Shepherd of Belmont, N.C., Mada and William Perkins of Hazelwood, MO and Zada and Francis Hamilton of Amarillo, TX, as well as a host of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Cecyle Lewis and Judy Moffit.

Virgil was a graduate from Kirksville High School with the Class of 1954. He served our country in the United State Army in two different enlistments.

Virgil was a mechanic and self-employed, owning two Chevron filling stations. He loved to fish and hunt.

Funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday (April 20, 2012) at Travis-Noe Funeral Home in Kirksville, with Pastor Pat Murdock officiating. Interment with military honors will follow the service at the Novinger Cemetery in Novinger, Missouri.

Family will receive friends, Friday (April 20, 2012) one hour before the service in the chapel of Travis-Noe Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Mark Stanley, Derek Kirkpatrick, Douglas Stanley, Jeffrey Stanley, Billy Lewis and Kerry Lewis. Honorary bearers will be his nephews.

Expressions of sympathy in memory of Virgil Stanley may be made to Hospice of Northeast Missouri. Memorials may be left at or mailed to Travis-Noe Funeral Home, P.O. Box 306, Kirksville, MO 63501.
