Mary Romelle Eagen, 76, of Kirksville, Missouri, passed away Tuesday (January 24, 2012) at Northeast Regional Medical Center in Kirksville.

The daughter of Glenn Joseph and Evelyn Marion (Lehman) Killday, she was born July 19, 1935 in Waseca, Minnesota. On June 4, 1955 in Adair Missouri, Mel was united in marriage to William D. Eagen who preceded her in death on January 11, 1992.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; one son, Lawrence William Eagen in August of 1957; one brother, Norbert Killday and one sister, Judy Bishop.

Mel is survived by four sons and daughters-in-law, Mark and Sharla Eagen of Kirksville, MO, Gary and Marilyn Eagen of House Springs, MO, Tony and Jeanie Eagen of Kirksville, MO and Terry and Gayla Eagen of Kirksville, MO; two daughters and sons-in-law, Debra and Tim Schertzer of Jefferson City, MO and Lisa and John Glaspie of Greentop, MO; one brother and sister-in-law, Pat and Cheryl Killday of Montgomery City, MO; nineteen grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Mel was a graduate from Baring High School with the Class of 1953. From 1953 to 1957, Mel was employed for Hallmark Cards in Kansas City and from 1983 to 2000 worked as secretary for Mary Immaculate Catholic Church in Kirksville. She was very active in church, with the Altar and Rosary Society, the Home and School Association, and she was involved in heading many funeral luncheons.

Mel was a long time active member and officer of Kirksville Baseball/Softball Association, Kirksville R-III Booster Club and was a member of Missouri Citizen’s For Life.

Mel will be remembered by her family for her many years of devotion and love for her family and will be sadly missed.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:00 a.m. Saturday (January 28, 2012) at Mary Immaculate Catholic Church in Kirksville, with Father Chris Cordes presiding. Interment will follow the service at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Adair, Missouri.

Public visitation will be held Friday (January 27, 2012) with family receiving friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. A Prayer service will be held 7:00 p.m. in the chapel of Travis-Noe Funeral Home in Kirksville.

Pallbearers will be Tyson Eagen, Corey Eagen, Travis Eagen, Joe Eagen, Bronson Eagen, Trenton Glaspie, Brayton Glaspie, Patrick Eagen and Jack Eagen.

Expressions of sympathy in memory of Mel Eagen may be made to Friends of St. Mary’s or to the St. Mary’s Cemetery Association. Memorials may be left at or mailed to Travis-Noe Funeral Home, P.O. Box 306, Kirksville, MO 63501.

Mark, Gary, Tony, Terry, Debbie, Lisa and your families~ Aunt Mel was such a wonderful lady. We are so sorry for her passing, but as you all already know she is with her maker and those loved ones that have past before her. We know their arms were wide open for her to come. We hope you find peace within.
I have many fond memories of her and your family home. Those will always be cherished!
