Gayla Kay (Glaspie) Eagen, 48, of Kirksville, Missouri, passed away Sunday (September 7, 2014) at Twin Pines Adult Care Center.

The daughter of Gerald Wayne and Wanda (Robinson) Glaspie, she was born March 20, 1966 in Kirksville, Missouri. On May 25, 1990 in Booneville, Missouri, Gayla was united in marriage to Terry Eagen.

Gayla is survived by husband, Terry of the home; her parents, Wayne and Wanda Glaspie of Greentop, MO; two sons, John Michael “Jack” Eagen and Patrick Glen Eagen all of Kirksville, MO; two daughters, Elizabeth Adair Eagen of Kirksville, MO and Mary Evelyn Robeson and husband Michael of Queen City, MO; one brother and sister-in-law, John Wayne and Lisa Glaspie of Greentop, MO; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Gyla Bohanan of Springfield, MO and Gleea and Jay Huttenstine of Greentop, MO, and two grandchildren, Justin Edward and Alivia Kay Robeson. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents.

Gayla was a graduate from Kirksville High School with the Class of 1984 and went on to receive a Business Administration Degree at Northeast Missouri State University. Gayla possessed a very warm and loving heart that transcended through her children of which she spent several years with as a mother and housewife. She later carried that devotion to the classroom as a para-professionsal, substitute teacher, and finally as a fifth grade special education teacher at Ray Miller Elementary. Her work as a special education teacher proved most gratifying to Gayla, fueled with enthusiasm and a ferocious work ethic. Her success in this work is seen on the faces of the students she has touched. She loved spending time with her family, gardening, mowing the grass, and cutting wood with her dad.

Public visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday (September 10, 2014), with a Wake Service held at 7:00 p.m. in the chapel of Travis-Noe Funeral Home in Kirksville.

Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Thursday (September 11, 2014) at St. Mary’s Church at Adair, with Father Chris Cordes presiding. Interment will follow the service at Adair Cemetery in Adair, Missouri.

Pallbearers will be Corey Eagen, Trenton Glaspie, Brayton Glaspie, Bronson Eagen, Joe Eagen, John Bohanan, Kevin Gregory and Mike Robeson.

Expressions of sympathy in memory of Gayla Eagen may be made to Friends of St. Mary’s or to Adair Cemetery. Memorials may be left at or mailed to Travis-Noe Funeral Home, P.O. Box 306, Kirksville, MO 63501.

Terry, you are in my thoughts and prayers. I am so sorry to hear of Gayla's passing. She was a great lady. She had a warm heart when we were in high school and she never lost it. May God comfort you and your family at this time and in the days to come. The KHS class of 1984 has another guardian angel.

Terry, My wife Nicky and I want you to know our prayers are with you and the kids during this hard time. Gayla is one of the first classmates I remember from our class of 1984. She was always so nice to everyone, there is a special place in heaven for her.
