Rex Wayne Yates, 72, of Queen City, Missouri, passed away Monday (August 25, 2014) at Twin Pines Adult Care Center, after a brave battle with ALS.

The son of Noel Frederick and Kathleen Mae (Bergman) Yates, he was born September 18, 1941 in Queen City, Missouri.

Rex is survived by one son, Daniel Yates of Columbia, MO; one daughter and son-in-law, Sheila and Robert Humphrey of LaPlata, MO; two nieces, Rochon Cain of Jefferson City, MO and Sherri Corbett of Columbia, MO; two nephews, Breck Cain of Kalona, IA and Terry Cain of Springfield, MO; several great nieces and nephews, and his special friend, Dorothy Ruggles of Queen City, MO.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Richard Yates and one sister, Sandra Cain.

Rex was a graduate from Queen City High School with the Class of 1959. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. Rex owned and operated his own business, Yates Construction for a number of years.

Rex was an avid Cardinal baseball fan, enjoyed fishing, gardening, flowers, and traveling. He also enjoyed meeting with friends at Casey’s in Queen City daily. Rex was a devoted father and loved spending time with his family.

He was a past president of the Queen City Pioneer Association, past president and coach of the Queen City Little League, and member of Kirksville V.F.W. Post #2508.

Public visitation will be held Thursday (August 28, 2014) with family receiving friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the chapel of Travis-Noe Funeral Home in Kirksville.

Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Friday (August 29, 2014) at Travis-Noe Funeral Home with Pastor Dan Todd officiating. Interment with military honors will follow the service at the Queen City Cemetery in Queen City, Missouri.

Pallbearers will be John Applegate, Wendell Gehrke, Breck Cain, Terry Sevits, Audrey Drummond, and Gary Stump. Honorary pallbearers will be Terry Cain, Larry Schonert, Don Lewis, Butch Sandstrom, Trevor Beeler and Cliff Rogers.

Expressions of sympathy in memory of Rex Yates may be made to Paralyzed Veterans of America. Memorials may be left at or mailed to Travis-Noe Funeral Home, P.O. Box 306, Kirksville, MO 63501.
